Tesla Model 3 had sold thousands times even before a single car was made. In fact, even before enough resources were mobilized to build that many cars. The older strategy where you first built something useful, then marketed it to the people and finally sold has now been replaced.

You have to market your product before you build it. Find out what the demand is like, let the user interact with an augmented reality version of the product, find out what volumes you should be building and work accordingly.

But what if no pre-orders flow in? Abandon the project in its current form and do something else.

 

Target micro-influencers

The last three years have seen a lot of influencer marketing campaigns. The center of these campaigns were social media personalities with at least a 100,000 followers. 2018 will see a shift towards micro-influencers.

Even though a smaller number of people listen to these - they trust them much more and are more likely to support them by buying the product they are marketing.

If you are performing any content market activity, it is time to move beyond keyword-rich articles. Now you have to focus on creating a cluster of articles related to the topic such that you become a one-stop shop for that topic.

These articles will be crosslinked to each other allowing the readers to dig deep into whatever strand of the topic at hand they want to explore.

 

Interact through AR

While VR and assorted headsets have got a lot of press in 2017, 2018 will belong to AR which captured the imagination of the masses through Pokemon GO.

As the technology gets better, it will also get spread out more evenly. No more digital adverts lacking a personal touch would work, nor would physical interactions that provided limited information.

Personalize everything

Consumers are already used to surface level personalization - where the mass mailer addresses him by his name. But this will not be enough in 2018.
